ABOUT US

Welcome to our website, We are avid makers and professional designers, We enjoy the challenge of building useful projects. Things that serve  a purpose......

The early years.

I grew up in at the village of Kingsthorpe in Northamptonshire UK.

My father was a self employed Painter and Decorator and an ex Royal Navy Gunner.

My love for anything electronic started when i was approx 10 years old.

My Uncle (a television engineer) gave me a valve amplifier that he had built as an apprentice so i could amplify my first electric guitar. I just needed to know what made it tick.......

My school years where waiting for Science lessons to come around, Other subjects never seemed to hold my attention, Music was also a favourite subject.

My science teacher, Mr Rose simply just had a way of making the most complicated lessons  a captivating experience.

I went on from mainstream education to our local college.

Whilst still at school i found that radio was a real mystery and i just had to understand how it worked. This was also the very beginning of the CB Radio phenomenum that had gripped the UK,

I landed an apprenticeship with a local PMR (private mobile radio) company.

I was assigned to Evan Long and what a teacher he was.

Evan has been a lifelong friend ever since and to me and many others the absolute cream of radio engineers. In fact we gave him the nickname of "Yoda".

In my spare time i would repair radios for friends and friends of friends.

I left my apprenticeship and was offered a position with a computer hardware company and quickly rose through the ranks to a supervisory position.

After approximately three years i moved onto an interesting position with an amusement company, i repaired and troubleshot Pin Ball Table control boards. This was a great job at the time.

Whilst  i did this full time i found i had a real talent repairing Tv,Video and audio equipment, after a year or so of repairing equipment i had inadvertently made a name for myself and had so much private work i had to make a choice.........  Work for a company or start my own venture. This i did in 1994 and Boothville Tv Services was born. Evan also worked with me part time whilst working for a well known radio supplier.

During this time i learned as much as i could humanly take in, every training course and seminar that was available i attended.

I decided in DEC 1999 to sell up as the flat screen TV had made its entry into the market and repairs where slowly becoming no longer viable, in my opinion manufacturers lead this demise by making parts unobtainable and pricing such that economical repairs where not at all financially viable.

The Present

Currently my full time job is a with a company that provides domestic electrical products as a development engineer, i get to break stuff for a living to make sure its safe for you to use.

Evan is now retired after many years of working in the medical electronics industry as a design engineer, but he is still very much active with electronics as his main hobby.

In my limited spare time i design and build some interesting devices for home use and to share as projects that you can build yourself.

My particular interests here are home automation and useful gadgets that can be used everyday. The perfect example would be my Stair-Lights project that has over the years had many iterations. Now i have a final build and it has had a very long test (5+Years) i think it would be safe to say reliability isn't going to be an issue.

As a fan of CB radio in its early days i have also designed a few "Toys" that can be fitted to any radio and these have proved very popular considering most would assume CB Radio is long dead in the UK, I beg to differ ! It would seem that in recent times there has been a resurgence in its use.

Evan and i work together on may projects and it has become more than just a hobby !

Its also nice to work with your best friend ! (we spend a lot more time laughing at stupid stuff than working !)

The goal of this website is to share our projects and experience with like minded people. All information is supplied without warranties or guarantees as the finished article would be the product of the end user, the build and quality of the final article i have no control over.

With this accepted please feel free to build, adapt, modify and use any of my published work in your own projects. If you want to re-publish any of my work please leave a link back to my website as i have done for others and please note that NONE of my work maybe used for commercial purposes without express permission.

I have a small store on this website where i supply PCB's for the projects as they are added and also some small modules that i have found useful and fun to play with. Selling these boards helps to maintain the site and create content.

This is by no means a business, this is solely intended to speed up the project process rather than awaiting modules and components to arrive from China for example. I keep them in stock so you don't have to.

I also have some used equipment from time to time that i will list in the shop, all items here are 100% Tested by myself before listing and again before dispatch.
